Issues
Protect Public Schools
It’s time the state makes a serious investment in public education. I support increasing and inflation-proofing the Base Student Allocation. We also need to overhaul our teacher retirement system to recruit and retain talented educators.
Provide Safe Roads
Roads should work for everybody, and House District 18 has far too many dangerous roads. We need to fix dangerous Duben Avenue in North Muldoon and reduce the number of hazardous blind corners and potholes. We must improve roads across the district for drivers and pedestrians. No student should be in danger walking to school.
Make Public Safety Reliable
Public safety doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all solution. I support a robust police force that can keep our neighborhoods safe. We need more police officers patrolling our community as well as more prosecutors. I was a prosecutor for the State of Alaska and prosecuted many cases involving violence against women and children.
Reduce Homelessness
Homelessness is a big and multi-pronged problem that demands a multi-pronged solution. We need to increase housing options. We need to increase shelter capacity, expand treatment opportunities for addiction and mental health, make sure that we enforce the laws quickly and fairly, and work with community leaders to address this issue in partnership with the Municipality.
Support Veterans
I’m proud to support our veterans. While in office, I passed into law the Military and Veteran Help Center and spearheaded the 2024 effort to raise the pay for Veteran Service Officers. I support improving voting access for veterans and fully funding and staffing the Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
In 2025, I got a commendation from the Department of Defense for my work supporting veterans in Alaska!
Build Revenue
Alaska is facing a tough fiscal situation. We need multi-national oil companies to pay their fair share. I support raising taxes on oil companies by a moderate amount, including closing the S-Corp tax loophole. I would also support a high-earner tax that would collect money from non-residents making big money in our state. However we build revenue, it’s important we support working families while allowing business to thrive.
Ensure Responsible State Spending
Building revenue isn’t enough to fix our structural deficit. We need to cut the waste in our budget and implement a smart spending cap, so we can deliver a balanced budget, a Permanent Fund Dividend, and the services Alaskans rely on.
Address the Cost of Living
Alaskans have always faced higher prices than in the Lower 48, with housing and health care leading the way. More recently, decisions made in Washington, D.C. have forced up prices for gasoline, food, and other staples. The state needs to make sure that anticompetitive behavior is not contributing to jacked-up prices.
Protect Medicaid
Thousands of Alaskans rely on Medicaid for health care, including 1 in 3 Alaska children. I’ll protect Denali KidCare and Medicaid services that help seniors, families, veterans, and people with disabilities access care close to home.
Protect Equal Rights
Alaska needs to remain a fair place to live, work, and pursue dreams. As a lawyer, I won a fair housing case to protect the rights of tenants against landlords who sought to discriminate against them.
Preserve Right to Choose
Alaskans have some of the strongest constitutional privacy protections in the country. I trust Alaskans, not politicians, to make personal medical decisions for themselves and their families. I’ll defend the right to choose and oppose efforts to interfere with reproductive health care.
